The profile of the V2 does look really good Graeme!
I was hoping to see Green Arrow at Shildon yesterday at the "Great Goodbye" event but I assume it is now at York!
Now you are well on the way to "sorting" the 00 version, it would be nice if someone with sufficient funds would the full size one!

The V2 is looking very nice indeed. Despite my Yorkshire ancestory grabbing at my wallet (sorry IAK) can I add my name to the list of those wanting body shells when they're ready?

Ta. Interest noted. "All" I have to do know is to prove the sceptics wrong and mould the thing successfully........
By the way, 5317 has now landed. I'll scrutinize it later and compare with my Little Engines example.

Looking at the book of the v2's shows me how good the new body could be and how poor the bachmann is....

Re: Atlantic's works inc. RTRconversions. Hornby GN coaches
A bit of side project here, although one I've had in mind for some time. No good for the ultra purist modellers of track, but if this actually goes somewhere I'm hoping to evolve an easy set of resin clip-on replacement part-bases to make horrible Peco HO continental pattern points look a bit more like OO British stuff, compatible at a glance with the appearance of SMP plain track. Insane? Who knows?
A start anyway.....

In his secret base at Peenemunde, evil genius Werner von Braun continues to assemble his improved terror weapon. After further attention to surface finish it has boiler bands plus locating dimples for holes now you know....

I will slip this one in while most are watching the telly.
If Graeme, you are even slightly concerned about the appearance of the track, is the gauge you are working with right for you, especially given all the other things you are already considering?
Again, just a thought.
John

Well I'm convinced - well on the way
Re: Atlantic's works inc. RTRconversions. Hornby GN coaches
That V2 is looking rather good Graeme. How are you going to mould it to cast - in two parts, or one part?

Re: Atlantic's works inc. RTRconversions. Hornby GN coaches
Whilst my feelings seem incomprehensible to disciples of EM & S4, I'm perfectly happy with the look of OO code 75 (although 65 would be better off the main lines, yet code 65 which I remember clearly from mid 1970s seems to have disappeared) so long as the sleeper sizes and spacings are proportional to the gauge, and it preferably appears to be properly chaired. With the number of locos in my possession, no desire to do the conversion work or to stand the cost of same on these, and the amount of track already down on my layout I feel no urge whatsoever to change gauges.
I shocked myself last night whilst idly exploring the concept of quite a simple "parade ground for several trains" exhibition layout, reckoning that in the end the track alone if ready-made would run to around £500! ! ! !
Simon: Somebody has already predicted that I'll never be able to cast it in one piece. Let's wait and see shall we..........

Only some of them, Graeme The debates about 'better OO track' elsewhere never fail to generate more heat than light, yet in essence it is simple - as you say, the sleeper length and spacing need to be proportionate to the narrower gauge.

Re: Atlantic's works inc. RTRconversions. Hornby GN coaches
I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that a substantial imrovement would come from simply making all of the basic traditional British track features to a consistent scale, which for 16.5mm gauge has to be 3.5mm:1ft.
I'm well aware that there are specialists in track studies out there who consider that there is such huge diversity of styles and dimensions in "old fashioned" British trackwork that a model cannot approach a satisfactory standard unless you model every detail of the exact lengths of track you have in mind, as owned by a particular company, possibly as laid by a specific contractor, maintained by a specific track gang and depicted on an exact date in history. I don't see it that way and I will not see it that way no matter how much breath (or typing) is expended on arguing that case. An average, or typical, or predominant style of properly proportioned ready made bullhead track INCLUDING SOME BASIC STYLES OF POINTWORK would be a huge advance on the use of a toy-like version of Continental track.

Re: Atlantic's works inc. RTRconversions. Hornby GN coaches
There's quite a few resin kits out there already which I'd say have more complicated geometry than the V2 in many respects: and they're cast in one piece so why not the V2? I say go for it Graeme. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
