Looks like separate handrails all round (even on tender) but like the 42xx, the ones on the cab and on the tender are pushed in a weeny bit too far? It looks utterly magnificent regardless.

Still wary of the reported square axleboxes but we'll see what we will see.

If it hits the mark in all areas, it'll be one of Hornby's finest models for years. The prototype just has that "oomph" factor to it and the model recreates that perfectly.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is the issue with the square axle boxes.

It looked to me like it was just the opening which is square. I'm assuming there is a bearing in there somewhere?

Cab ones look moulded as are the ones on tender (ITS A MOCK UP

)

The "square" bearing has appeared on the latest Hornby GWR Tank locos whereby the axles run direct onto the chassis

= increased wear = cheap = poor quality = poor design + overpriced IMHO

Railroad model looks superb. Looking forward to getting my hands on one. Note the holes for the (plastic I believe, ala the Duke) handrails/etc.

This and the special edition model will no doubt fly off the shelves. Reserving judgment on the chassis still, but the bodyshell looks superb thus far.
