You followed all of the advice and thought 'things could only get better'. Like all advice, it was wrong!!!! One bright spot is that the wallet will starve to death!!
Seriously, I do hope that things 'pick up' for you soon. Try to avoid what Chaucer called 'The Slough of Despond', solves nothing if you go there.
If you're feeling down just remember that there's alway someone worse off - poor sod!!!

PP 'fraid your going back to school. John Bunyan Pilgrims Progress features the Slough of Despond. Does the word Slough mean a marsh? or is it a town on the GWR.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

'Slough' in this part of the world definitely applies to a marsh or even a shallow pond. No doubt that somewhere in the vastnesses of this country there exists a town call Slough, as well. Either way, i suppose we'll just slough it off.

I never really established what a 'slough' was for certain. A marsh or swamp would fit in the context and also serves to describe the place on the Great Way Round

Never mind PP its obvious that the original meaning of Slough and the place are the same thing in reality. Slough is a strange word and can also mean the act of a snake shedding its skin.

Nothing unusual in that, except that no-one had seen one like it. They were given to certain customers but, sadly, Citroen went bust before the test was over and Michelin's first act was to sell the cars. As such, they were the first ever diesel cars to be sold, pre-dating Mercedes by 12 months.

Slough is very depressing
I had a car accident there, once. I drove into the back of a Volvo who had just changed lanes and then slammed on the brakes!! There wasn't a mark on the thing, although my Vauxhall Chevette looked sick!!! (Or more sick if you remember the Chevette!)

My first car was a 1975 Vauxhall Viva HC SL 1256cc in Ruby Red with matt black vinyl roof and beige interior. My Dad and I fitted a DTV (Dealer Team Vauxhall) front air dam and rear spoiler, silver and gold Alleycat wheels, Spax adjustable shock absorbers, Kenlowe fan, sports air filter and electronic ignition. It actually looked tasteful rather than "boy racer". Sadly I even remember the number plate HDH 268N! (DH was the Walsall area registration).
It was eventually part-ex'd against one of the first Ford Fiesta XR2s - a little black one MOP 56X. I like them so much I had two more - a white one EWD 919Y, and a red Mk2 whose reg no. shockingly escapes me at the moment! Memories, memories!
Edit: I've remembered - C757 JOX! The last privately bought car before a series of (initially boring) company cars!

My first car was CWK195C, a 1965 mini traveller with an 850cc engine which had done 80000 miles before it came into my possession.
It could only just cope with two passengers uphill, any more and they would have to get out and walk/push.
I took it out onto a straight road and timed its 0-60mph acceleration - just under a minute.
Those were the days.

It passed two MOTs with the rear brakes seized solid.....

Aah, happy days.
My mini had no idea what heating meant. I am sure that it must have had a heater, but it also had a dodgy battery connection, so that if the headlights were on then switching anything else on would cause all power to fail, everything to stop and go a very dark shade of black.
This caused endless hilarity-NOT- for traffic behind me when it happened, and as the battery was in the back by the spare wheel, it was usually a rather laborious job to get things working again.
So, it was best to wear lots of clothes and hope to keep warm that way rather than expect anything other than the most basic electrical items to function.
However, these sudden 'blackouts' (with apologies to Mr Dowse) could be very useful when driving on a quiet country lane with a lovely lady in the passenger seat, but maybe I will leave the rest to your imaginations.
