Dapol B17

Post by sterrenvor »

I would like to reserve a Dapol B17 (inc. teak coach set?) in LNER green from my local supplier for my birthday.
Does anyone know what name the LNER liveried B17 will be? I have been told Hull City (my home town), Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers.

Hi
According to the 2008 catalogue the loco in the teak book set will be "Doncaster Rovers" The stand alone LNER loco will be "Grimbsby Town". The 2 BR versions will be "Darlington" in the book set and "Hull City" stand alone
Shame I am looking for "Arsenal and West Ham" being from south off the Watford Gap but now in New Zealand Would remind me of Blighty.

Thanks Tony,
Grimsby Town would have been a good as a near neighbour for a "Tigers" fan but any LNER rtr loco is always 100% perfect. Sorry about Arenal/West Ham but Dapol naturally prefer northern clubs!

I thought they were biased to their home GWR territory and the SR :-)
(as an aside I think Dapol's gamble on the SR does them credit, and it appears to have worked)

I suspect that if the B17s do well, we'll see quite a few clubs produced as Collector Club issues or commissions. If you think you can shift 500 (or whatever the special commission order is), you could commission a specific engine yourself!

Hi Guys

I am not taking any chances and have ordered West Ham plates from BH Enterprises. I am very pleased that another company is releasing LNER locos apart from Union Mills which I feel tend to lack a bit of detail but the prices are good and they pull well. Have you seen the new site from Australia? Ixion they are on the Dapol website and I have it from a little bird that an LNER loco is on the cards but they will not say which yet. We will have to wait and see but LNER is deffinitely looking up and the future is rosy.

Ixion are just vapour-ware until they start shipping something. The hints that have been put around suggest that there's a 75% chance of an LNER or Eastern Region steam engine in the first 3 releases.
However it is too easy to read too much into hints - eg. etched plates will be the norm, so some people think that every engine will have etched plates (ie. be GWR or a namer).

Also in the Direct sales for a quarter 4 release, is 2854 Sunderland in LNER with the matching 66725.

Just one point, Doncaster Rovers comes with 3 Teak coaches, but they aren't producing any more, so we'll have short trains!

I don't understand their logic if they are only going to produce the locos with three coaches and no more available. We are still going to be stuck with old Minitrix and Cav'ndish sets, the GF ones don't really count. I'll probably only get two single locos now, one will end up as one of the local castles, Lumley or Lambton, and the other will end up as a K4.

I think they are going to "see how sales go". I've suggested that they make the coaches available in sets of say 3 or 4 without a loco. You could then buy a couple of sets in addition to the B17 boxed set, to get a full rake.

That would seem to be a sensible idea and it's a lot better than none at all.
Thanks for that post Richard.

We'll see what the sets look like, but if you're buying single locos, perhaps we could do a deal for the extra coaches :-)

Having three half brakes and buffets in one rake might be a bit unrealistic though :-(

I plan 3 with the coaches to put two sets of coaches together and rename the spare one from the other coaches and sell the other set.

2 Singles (one to sell on)

3 of the Sunderland sets (one for the B17 and the Diesel, and an renamer from another one, selling the spare Diesel, and the spare set).

Did B17s ever get to Whitby though for reality?

Hmmm...

I've just had an email from Lindsay O' Reilly of Ixion and whilst " the proof of the pudding is in the eating" he does seem to be hinting strongly at a ROD/O4. Here's hoping!
