Not all Meerkats are Russian - here is my works manager surveying the latest RTR conversion before he got a dressing down for putting the wrong number on the cabsides.
I cannot convince him that 95 was a LHD engine in that state! Now changed to 104!
This one talks like a certain world war II Field Marshall!I cannot convince him that 95 was a LHD engine in that state! Now changed to 104!

Another neat an innovative job, but I remain to be convinced regarding the attractions of black wartime livery.Saint Johnstoun wrote:works manager surveying the latest RTR conversion
"Universal" V front cab, and rear body chunk for W1 rebuild, now both appear to be ready for a go at mould making. Pictures later.

Can't wait for more goodies from you Graeme - more conversions in sight! I would like to do 60700 in BR state to run on my layout. I presume with careful modification this should be possible using your resin back end.
104 is the last wartime black loco I will be doing. Another black one is away to a customer for a presentation, and it is only my intention to have a representative of A1 and A3 in wartime liveries, as I too far prefer the LNER green.
Mind you, I am now rapidly running out of variations to do. The final one for now will be 4480 Enterprise, A3 but with original height boiler mountings, long travel valves added, and as 4480 on the tender.
The 4-8-2 is coming on and more pics soon. I have yet to decide on a livery? I've also started the upgrade on the resin 10000.

I believe the resin rear end for the rebuilt W1 should be equally applicable to the de-valanced period - just cut the valances from the resin section, fit it to a chopped body that was originally un-valanced, rescue the reversing reach rod and the lower firebox sides from the remains and fit these to the extended body (along with all of the cab internals that you would have to transfer for any version).

And you finish up with a spare A4 cab which might be useful for something else!

Virtually two for the price of one. So now I can tell any interested party: BOGOF.

Re: Atlantic's lunacy, inc. RTRconversions - "Resin W" (not
Moving on: Here's the W1 body chunk with ends boxed in a cleaned up, ready for final inspection folowed by fitting to the base of a moulding box. Each front inner corner includes the last-minute wheel clearance aid, following helpful comment by ****tan.
Now I was meant to be doing the generic V front cab first as a method prover, but lack of mould making materials in the first instance, then the fact that preparation of the W1 part had caught up with this one, combined with the realisation that I would have to do the two slightly differently, means that in the end I'm doing the two moulds in parallel. The W1 works out easiest if I initially stick the base of the master to the moulding box base. The ordinary V front cab needs to be turned onto its false rear edge.
Mid afternoon today I had the parts bonded to some bases ready to be taped to the bottom of Lego moulding boxes. When the first pour of rubber has set, in each case, I need to turn these over, strip off the bases and pour a a new layer of rubber to form the core and "lid". The core must of course be correctly located within the outer when each casting is being made, hence the "pips and strips that I've added to the bases adjoining the masters, These will leave impressions in the joint face of the mould, so that the two halves will key together. The use of strips rather than just corner pips on the lond sides of the W1 mould should help to ensure that the mould sides are prevented by the lid from bulging outwards, should I need to put weight on top to close the mould fully.
First pours of rubber are now curing. Annoyingly, one box is leaking slightly so I'll have to top it up a bit now to ensure that the cab remains fully covered.

In addition to the conversion possibilities, the A4 cab would be a lovely scenic addition to a layout, sat round the back of a shed like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:60009-CAB.JPG
