Thompson Coaches - a Question of grain

Hi

Im currently tarting up a few of these old Triang coaches, a brake and 3 thirds. Im replacing the bogies, underframe detail, end detail, flush-glazing and adding correct-ish roof details.

They will be finished in BR Maroon, started the waist lining tonight on a couple of the sides, using Fox transfers. Jeez, definately need a break after that! If anyone is interested I'll post photos.

I'll post up some pics soon as I get the chance, currently the brake and one of the thirds have the sides painted maroon (actually Rover Damask Red) and are lined. The underframes and ends are bereft of any detail and fittings, as are the roofs! The other thirds are in red oxide primer.

The bogies Im using are Bachmann ones (not perfect but they'll do) and the detailing parts are a mixture of Comet and Ian Kirk.

I'm struggling to find a decent picture of the end detail on Thompson stock on line. The LNERCA have some excellent pictures of coaches under restoration but piccies of the ends of vehicles in service seem to be unobtainium.

Anyone got any out there?

Yes indeed BB! If you are ever up our neck of the woods we will gladly show you round. We are hoping that Thompson Dia 329 Corridor Third 1623 will be nearing completion by the end of this year and Dia 328 Corridor Composite will be in the shed and having major frame repairs started.

No. The emergency brake tell tales and valve and piping were one end only. The filler pipes only suuply the toilet tanks so if the coach only has toilets one end then likewise the filler pipes.

The other thing to note is that the drain pipes from the roof gutters were only fitted to carriages where the doors were right at the end (like the TTO pictured). Normally the gutters would just have a short piece of zinc angle at the ends to take the rain water away from the body end.

Now that we "know" non-gangwayed Thompson coaches are coming in from Hornby this year, where would be a good place to start to find out to what extent these new coaches, with the Gresley suburbans already available, can be utilized and in what combinations to make "accurate" or "acceptably accurate" rakes?

Pardon the excessive number of questions here but I am new to carriage modelling, having been a loco modeller hitherto who regarded "rolling stock" as simply something to give my locos something to do!

Anyway, did Thompson (and Gresley for that matter!) have single or double doors to the compartments. Although I have ridden in both designers' vehicles, they were open stock!
