9F COCK'O'THE NORTH!!!!

Post by A3 Spearmint »

Hi guys
I've been told by a friend that a 9F (it's number escapes me) has been named Cock 'O' The North! Surely this is going to upset a few people not to mention the A1 Trust and the guys in Doncaster, I hear it was a womens idea who's father served in the Gordon Highlanders.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Over to you cheers.
Interested in the NBR,LNER and shale works railways of central Scotland.

Indeed, 9F 92214 (based on the NYMR, previously at Butterly) is named Cock O' The North. I don't see why it would upset the A1 trust (Their loco is going to have a new name, as Tornado did).

I can also confirm that the woman who suggested the name did not know there was ever a locomotive named Cock O' The North.

I fail to see why there would be any annoyance at this, BR, the LNER, GWR and probably the other two of the big four re-used names on many of their locomotives. It wouldnt surprise me if they had locomotives with the same names.

Quite right, like a Britannia class No 70022 called Tornado.

But it would be nice for a bit of originality.
