Those ***** at the P.T.E. denied that they had a privitisation agenda but they have been farming bits out piecemeal over the last couple of years, I bet they still retain their bloated quango staffing levels even after they have sold it off, the question begs why did they have a new state of the art H.Q. built when they knew this was coming ?.
How long before our pensioners concession travel disappears I wonder?.

The Nexus spokesman tried to allay fears on Look North tonight of a privatisation agenda. Sadly then, in the light of the past twenty years experience of events in the world of transport, why did I find his words so unconvincing?

Its a "good day" to release bad news as the mothballing of Corus is the main regional topic at the moment.

And at least if a private company is running it they will probably have proper ticket barriers at the station instead of the current system which encourages fare dodging.

What hope for the often suggested extension of services to Blyth or Ashington now?

The proposed extension to Washington nearly happened a few years ago, the P.T.E. even released the route plan which caused concern amongst home owners along the route resulting in a lot of panic selling especially at Sunderland Road Villas, my friend took a chance it wouldent happen and bought.
Cant ever see it reaching Ashington or Blyth in my lifetime but maybe it will be extended through Bensham, Dunston,T.V.T.E. and the Teams to the Metro Centre which would make economic sense as it will pass through high density population areas and greatly ease the traffic congestion.
A lot of this route would have to be well underground due to the gradients and would
probably pick up the Carlilse route.

cant see n.r agreeing as it would preclude ever wiring the link to carlisle it may be possiable to get another track along side as far as blaydon, i am led to believe that the metro centre station is not own by n,r it is privatly owned by the metro shopping centre

Yes that would be great, especially in the tunnels! Speaking of Plandampf, this looks good for Easter.

Could a metro route be made along Scotswood road via the Elswick works and station then across the Tyne to the Metro centre.

I doubt it, the track bed has been well built over by the the ambulance station, Newcastle Business Park, the widening to a dual c/way of Scotswood Rd and various car dealerships, the bridge over the Tyne to Blaydon is well delapidated and the track bed into the former coal disposable site which could have been used has also been developed so its a non starter. The Carlilse route is the only option.
