The weather here is Baltic but so were the tank engines
Furness Railway and GCR fan.

Maybe the door on the left side of the picture was stuck?

The one of the 37s

Did the signaller ask him to pop in and sign the train register

Take an engine shed X feet long with no stop blocks. Take one A4, X feet minus 1, throw out fire and insert loco with low steam pressure and vacuum brake which has lost most of its efficiency. Add someone who thinks he knows what he is doing but doesn’t = hole in wall!

At Darlington Works on 17th Sept 1961; ID of EE Type 4 (aka Class 40) loco unknown. Perhaps more OOPH!! than OOPS!! ?

Possibly D249 which had made rather a good job of demolishing Grantshouse after over-running signals on the up loop?

61070: "Left her parked and when I came back she was like this! Not even a note left under the windscreen wipers". Just wondered, was the EE4 by any chance D249? As in early August 1961 this loco ran through the loop at Grantshouse and demolished the goods shed, causing chaos on the ECML.
