A1 Trust New Build Steam
Great News for All. After the trusts success with "Tornado" and "Prince of Wales", they have announced a new J38. LNER 1416 is it's number. Here's the link to the announcement: http://www.a1steam.com/index.php?Itemid ... w=category. This is great news for the Preservation movement but it's even better news for LNER Enthusiasts

Also the chap who is meant to have put up the money comes from a 'town' that happens to be the German name for April Fool's Day.
I saw the press release yesterday and wasn't too impressed, but then April Fool's aren't my thing...

Re: A1 Trust New Build Steam
The A1 Trust will have it's work cut out to refurbish those MkIIIs - although Abellyache Greater Anglia (AGA) has painted the outsides (over the rust bubbles around the windows) and is refurbishing the interiors, the ride quality still leaves a great deal to desired - and it's not down to the permanent way, which has been re-laid or realigned and re-ballasted over the last year or so. The gangway connections squeak and groan all the time too, whilst the seats are still less comfortable than those fitted in the HSTs.
Presumably these Mk3s will become surplus once AGA starts taking delivery of the new stock ordered when the franchise was re-awarded, since a loco-hauled set has been borrowed from Virgin West Coast to add capacity. That set does have a better ride too!

G'day Gents
Maybe those Mk 3's need to be retro fitted with some good old fashioned Gresley bogies.

Re: A1 Trust New Build Steam
Here's an interesting thought/idea. Will the A1 boys be scumbling the proposed fleet of Mk3s' they are now thinking of getting in lieu of the rumoured Gresley Teak fleet.
Re: A1 Trust New Build Steam
I'd rather see them in Coronation colours to be honest. I am glad that they have decided not to try and put together a main line set of Gresley carriages with none authentic interiors.
This makes more sense.

A very good thought.Wavey wrote:I'd rather see them in Coronation colours to be honest
Tourist stock colours would perhaps work too.

Re: A1 Trust New Build Steam
Was it Mk1 or Mk2 stock that was repainted in Tourist stock livery for use on the West Highland line back in the 1980s? I remember watching an episode of 'Steam Days' many years ago and thinking how remarkably well they looked in that colour scheme. I don't think scumbled teak would look all that well to be honest; look at the carriages London Underground had scumbled and ran on the later 'Steam on the Met' events. Not very convincing at all, IMHO.JASd17 wrote:

Mark 1 and the original Mk2s had tourist stock livery.

Re: A1 Trust New Build Steam
What kind of livery do you think the Mk3 coaches will eventually run in behind Tornado. A1SLT Tours logo along sides of coaches maybe?.
