Pre-war goods formations

Post by David-MG »

Hi Guys
I apologise if this subject has already been aired. I have just re-entered modelling in 'N' and will have a l/o base on LNER/LMS. I have surfed the net but most pics show the loco only or if lucky the first two wagons. The same applies to books !
So any info. on mixed goods would be appreciated.

Hello David,

A good start would be Goods Traffic of the LNER by Geoff Goslin. He goes through goods traffic in different areas of the system, what would be typical for a given flow, and what motive power was available. He also has a section on the proportions of opens to vans to minerals, etc. and also on the relative numbers of goods vehicles belonging to each of the Big Four so you can get a feel for how many of each type of vehicle from each company you need.
