Just a quickie - is the J71 wheelbase identical to the J72?

Afternoon all
I think the total wheelbase is the same (13ft8ins) but the middle axle is a couple of inches different.
I can't which is which at this moment. One is 6'6"+7'2" and the other is 6'8"+7'0".

J72: 6'8" + 7'0" 4' 1 1/4" dia wheels

I used to have an eidetic memory, but it has faded with time.
I remembered the wheelbase through building a J71 from the Mainly Trains conversion kit, and using their chassis to improve a J72. I looked up the chassis measurements and decided that the two inch difference wasn't worth bothering about.
I used to pass exams by remembering the pages from my notes. I never did any revision.
Nowadays, I have to really concentrate on something to absorb it into my memory.

Now where did I put the green books??...LOL

Some of the J71s used bits from much earlier tank engines so wheel diameters and dimensions were slightly different. Hoole mentions this but I don't think there has been a complete list.

Good morning all on a sunny but chilly day in Surrey
Having found the green book (but lost my piercing saw), I am having a tea break and RCTS part 8B shows that 137,969,972,977,980,1196-9 had secondhand smaller wheels. My newly acquired Yeadon Vol 43A has pics of them. Some kept their small wheels until withdrawal.
Now to retace my steps and find that damned saw.

Sorry EN I should have jumped a bit quicker. it was a memory jogger that did it after reading about the 124 class 0-6-0s (they were an 0-6-0 version of the BTP class) I remembered that some of the E class had been rebuilds from the 44 class. Quoting from Hoole the boilers were pitched 4 inches higher than the Es and so used a higher than usual running plate and the splashers of the E1 class and the Buffers were set well down on the beams.
Hope this helps. The last of the 44 rebuilds to be withdrawn was No.106 (In LNER livery) from Shildon in September 1926

The Mainly Trains J71 conversion kit is still available from their site. It makes a nice job. Dad built his P4 and runs it on West Pinfold, which should hopefully be complete in time for the 2014 Birtley MRE show.

I bought a part-built Connoisseur OO kit, complete less tank fillers, smokebox door and rods. A long dead Mainline J72 will provide these bits.

Wonderful!

Now just get the Season of Bah Humbug! over......
