Song titles for locomotives
Afternoon all
I was strolling acroos the countryside this morning listening to my Ipod on random. Meatloaf's "Bat out of Hell" came on and to me it suggested Mallard's dash down Stoke Bank 75 years ago.
I then tried to think of other songs to associate with locos.
How about Stings's "Fields of Gold" for a D2 plodding across Lincolnshire wheatfields?
How about "Any old iron" for a D23 on the Middleton-in Teesdale branch?
How about Jimmy Dean's "Big Bad John" for the U1 Garratt (or "Big strong man")?
How about Jerry Lee Lewis's "Whole lotta shain' goin' on" for a D49?
Digressing slightly, how about Meatloaf's "I'd do anything for love, but I won't do that", for the fireman on Bulleid's Leader?
Any more suggestions

Sorry.............
Just heard a lorry reversing outside and it brought to mind the beginning of the "Inspector Morse" theme.
Nearest loco would be class 40's idling??

Not LNER and not strictly locomotives BUT The Kinks' "Waterloo Sunset" from memory coincided with bashing to Bournemouth/Weymouth at the end of steam; and the phrase in "Penny Lane" - "Clean Machines" - headed a piece of graffito on Bournemouth station, with a list! Doesn't hearing an old tune zip you back through the years?

G'day all
How about Seekers; "I'll never find another you" for the original "Hush-Hush" W1?
How about Billy Fury; "Like I've never been gone" for Tornado or other new builds?

Very apt Earlswood as at one time, the Tornados were Billy Fury's backing group.earlswood nob wrote:G'day all
