BR Livery for Peppercorn K1info needed
A builder of a Peppercorn K1 is after Livery info for the BR built Peppercorn K1. I have no info on this one !
quote
"I am building a K1 but I am having trouble finding information on their history with BR particularly with regard to livery.
I know there were all outshopped in BR Black mixed traffic livery but my question is whether they all carried this to the end of their lives or whether I have any other lining options? I find BR MT lining very hard to do indeed and was wondering if any individual loco's differed? IE was there an unlined black one at any stage?"
Anyone any ideas ??

Can't check right now as I'm about to head out to work (I have a Yeadon upstairs). I'm pretty sure they were always Mixed traffic livery.mick b wrote:A builder of a Peppercorn K1 is after Livery info for the BR built Peppercorn K1. I have no info on this one !

I do not pretend to be an expert on BR liveries, but I have an extensive photo library and I have never seen one in other than BR mixed traffic livery.

We have been here before, and I have still not found any evidence to confirm the "M&GN circle newsgroup" quote from a retired driver that he had taken a K1 (62039) to March shed in the late 1950s and he swears blind that it was in lined green.

Doubt the livery of number 39 is likely, and it would be lined, so not helping the original question.
All lined black as far as I can see.
With the usual changes on the tender, i.e. 'BRITISH RAILWAYS' in full for the first 50 when new; first BR crest, last twenty when new, and then later BR crest.

Mick, brought Yeadon to work and now on a break. All had mixed traffic lining.
Hope this helps.

I think Loco's Illustrated did a combined K1/L1 volume, if anyone has this to hand. Or did Thomson do a K1 too?

Anything weird or unusual will catch my interest, be it an express or locomotive
I'm also drawn to the commemorative, let's hope Bachmann will produce 6165 Valour.

There is a photo of 62039 on Flickr dated 1-8-1960 at York, the loco is in lined black with later BR crest.strang steel wrote:We have been here before, and I have still not found any evidence to confirm the "M&GN circle newsgroup" quote from a retired driver that he had taken a K1 (62039) to March shed in the late 1950s and he swears blind that it was in lined green.
There is also one in Yeadon Volume 18, which given the colour of the stock must be late 1950s, I can make out the earlier crest on the tender, but the loco is dirty. It looks lined black as far as I can tell.
Lined green wasn't applied to the V2s until December 1956.
