4464 Bittern
By a fluke, I was on Swindon Station this morning when 4464 Bittern passed though onto the Gloucester line on its way to participate in a forthcoming SVR Gala.
A lovely splash of blue in the chocolate & cream country. Mind you the chime whistle warmed the cockles of me 'eart.

So I DID hear a chime whistle just before midday ....
For Kemble Tunnel, I presume.
Quite made my day.

Re: 4464 Bittern
Wow! I'm pleasantly surprised that they're keeping it blue. I'd originally asumed that the change of colour would be as temporary as the change of identity. Nice that there'll be an operational A4 in the colour I remember from my childhood posters for a little bit longer.
(And when it does finally go back to BR green, could they at least get the same colour paint as Union of South Africa?)

Even better - why not resurrect other lost A4 liveries. 2509 Silver Link, anyone?

Now she has a corridor tender they can at least get the tender configuration right for 2509, unlike in the 80's

Well, I wouldn't say never, but that has been done in recent memory (even if I never got to see it ). Surely the really lost A4 liveries are wartime black, experimental "purple", and LNER green - next time Bittern plays dress-up one of those liveries should be considered first don't you think?Blink Bonny wrote:why not resurrect other lost A4 liveries. 2509 Silver Link, anyone?

Re: 4464 Bittern
Is it just my eyes, or is 4464 "Bittern" painted in a lighter shade of "LNER blue" than currently exhibited on 4468 "Mallard"?
I have often thought that Mallard was too dark...
Can the experts please advise?
Thank You,
John Russell

Could be lighting. Mallard is rarely seen in daylight whereas 4464 is rarely seen in artificial .
