B1 IMPALA

What was the livery of B1 Impala after wartime NE 8303 and BR days? Was it lined apple green, black with red lining or something else?

Ay up!

It certainly appeared in black lined red when renumbered 1000 and became BR lined black 61000 after that. I dunno whether or not it was ever apple green.

Impala never was 1000 or 61000, that was Springbok. Impala was 1003 or 61003. I know a good website to help you with this - the LNER Encyclopedia!!!

You're obviously feeling the lack of your favorite delicacy!!!

Gentlemen, according to my 1957 Ian Allan British Locomotives Impala was numbered 61002.
61003 was named Gazelle.

According to "The Green Book" part 2B, 8303 was originally black with NE on the tender, extended to LNER before Nationalisation, then in April 1948 it appeared from Cowlairs in green with black and white lining as 61002 but with BRITISH RAILWAYS on the tender.

It does not actually mention renumbering to 1002 in the text, but in the later table Jan 1946 is listed for that change.

I wonder if the tender LNER was added at the same time as renumbering to 1002?

Presumably, only photographs would confirm that?
