Concerning the various BBC recordings mentioned elsewhere, I was fascinated by the 1936 recording of the Silver Jubilee. It’s right at the end of –

You can clearly hear the articulated twins running over the rail joints.
The other thing is, how did they arrange for the locomotive to whistle for so long?
I suppose it was in the weekly notice, something like – “10.00 am Newcastle to Kings Cross - Recording at Stevenage. Driver to sound whistle approaching and passing through station.”
