BR (NE) Building colours???

Post by whitby50g »

Hi Guys

Greetings from New Zealand.

I am buillding a layout loosely based on Robin Hoods Bay (Whitby - Scarborough Railway) in the early sixties. At that time I believe most buildings were painted in blue and silver grey. I understand that the nearest paint colours are Oriental Blue and Silver Birch. Does anyone know where I can source these colours (for shipment to NZ)

Many thanks

I would imagine you would be able to find a good match in the 'tamiya' or Humbrol general hobby paint ranges. Shipping paint overseas is rarely allowed, and that said I don't know of anyone selling a 'perfect match' NE region Blue anyway??

www.stationcolours.info (a fantastic site by the way with plenty of colour pics of NE region colour) suggests;

Tangerine - Tamiya flat orange. Ivory - Tamiya 'Ivory' acrylic. Oreintal Blue - no match at present; possibly Tamiya sky blue lightened with white.

cheers

Hello whitby

Where abouts are you in NZ. If you are in the Wellington region try Gerald Skelton at Macks Trax in Johnsonville he has a very comprehensive paint range. He also has a website www.mackstrack.co.nz worth a look also go to the station colours site as Will advises, very useful

Hi Guys
Thanks Will for your info on Station colours... it certainly gives me a start point.

Tony M great to hear from you. I was down in Wellington a couple of months ago and took the Johsonville train up to Macs...wonderful journey and a great model shop...could do with one like it in Cambridge...but at least there's a reasonable model shop in Tauranga.

Thanks both for your help...hopefully my efforts will recapture the spirit of Robin Hoods Bay

Cheers
