61032 Stembok

Post by Snow Hill »

Anyone know the final resting place of B1 61032 Stembok? I'm suffering from a bout of nostalgia at the moment (which is more often than not these days) and would like to trace the area of the scrap yard it was despatched to.

I was in the Sheffield area in the mid sixties and remember spotting the locomotive sitting forlornly without its tender. It was still unmolested and I managed to 'cab' it. I also remember that there was a station not far away that seemed to open onto a rounadabout. The road ran parallel with the railway past a siding full of locos; I presume waiting for their turn at the scrapyard.

If anyone can give an indication of where I might be talking about, I would be grateful.

According to reports 61032 was withdrawn from Hull Dairycoates 11/66 and scrapped by
A Draper of Sculcoates ,Hull in the spring of 1967. It had been at Hull since late 1963.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm pretty sure I was no where near Hull at the time and I'm also pretty sure it was 61032 I saw. Never mind, worth a try
