Hitchin and Hornsey Stations

Post by Atso »

Hi all,

I'm about to start building my first N gauge layout, based on the stations at Hitchin and Hornsey, while I live reasonably close to Hitchin, I am having difficulty finding building plans for the stations (especially what the buildings/shed on platform 2 at Hitchin where like) and associated structures for both sites. Can anyone help with information?

Many thanks
Steve

Track and signalling plans yes, plans for buildings no. I may have some very large scale maps of the railway at Hitchin but it's been a while since i've seen them.

Derek Bidwell at Model Drawings is well worth giving a shout. He will know if said drawings have appeared in print. nice chap!
Other then that, it is either a National Archives/Nat Railway Museum enquiry, or like for 99% of English railway buildings, a case of scaling from photos.

good luck!

as a start....

but to be honest the Nat Railway Museum will be be better for drawings and diagrams

Thanks Will, I'll try that - have you figured out what you're doing with the FB kit yet?

R.Pike, thats for the offer, I've got a track diagram in Great Northern Railway Engine Sheds. What scale are you plans?

Many thanks again.

You dont mention which era you are modelling but for track plans a visit to County Hall and the records office ... they hold the large scale OS maps which can be photocopied for a small charge. Hitchin is there, alternatively NHDC office in Letchworth may also have them..... re the buildings .. Hitchin Library may have a some info... havent visited but they have held railway themed local history displays....The Gresley Society also have some views of the Station and shed in GNR and LNER days...

Cant help with Hornsey but the "London Record" ? magazine covered the LNER southern end in a series of articles I think last year.. Ian Allan, Motorbooks or Humms hold copies...

..and just a thought the British Railways Illustrated..magazine and one of the albums have also featured both Hitchin and the southern part of the ECML..

Hope of some help,
