Sir Vincent Raven
After reading an excellent book by Andrew Everett on the above engineer I was prompted to apply to Gateshead Council to have a blue heritage plaque placed on his former home in Cambridge Terrace, Gateshead.
I am pleased to report that this has been accepted in principle and indeed the council are looking at other sites associated with the Greenesfield Locomotive Works notably the Literary Society building of the N.E.R which was until recently the B.R.S.A. staff club but has now been converted to apartments.
I have placed it in this category as he was the father in law of Edward Thompson. penultimate C.M.E. of the L.N.E.R.
Maybe there are railway buildings or former residences of note in your area which would merit such a plaque ?

Re: Sir Vincent Raven
Ha - success at last, Gateshead Council are fed up with me pestering them and they have agreed to erect a blue heritage plaque onto the wall of the former Railway Literary Society, Hudson Street in honour of Sir Vincent Raven in the near future, I have been invited to the proceedings and unveiling ceremony.
I had been lobbying for the plaque to be placed on his former house but I am satisfied with this appropiate location. I am very pleased that this giant of the N.E.R. has been given recognition in the town he spent a great part of his career in.
Gateshead Local history society also took up the mantle and have been of great assistance in my efforts ( Thanks Sandra).

Congratulations, very well done. (Handy for a pint in the railway club afterwards)!

Probably a pint or two in the Head of Steam Central bar 52A, it has a cracking roof terrace.

Re: Sir Vincent Raven
Somehow I cant see me being invited back to the Civic for a freebie.
Re: Sir Vincent Raven
Nope, all the councillors will go back for their freebie and tell each other, and the worlds press, what splendid fellows they are for having such a good idea. Fine, honest and upstanding chaps.
