Always some great pictures Trev keep up the good work.
After watching several dvds lately that featured several 'Brits' in them that were still working in there last year or two of B.R. steam in the north west around 1966-67 and into 1968 it's a real pity that two or three more of those locos weren't saved from the breakers yard cos they were great looking locos and good performers I still like them a lot.

Thanks Mickey For your nice comment.
The first time I saw 70013 was in 1953 when I was going with my parents to Gt Yarmouth on holiday and we stopped in Norwich station, there were two others with it, 70003 and 70012. When we arrived in Yarmouth I asked mum if she would buy me a train book, they were the first three engines I ever had underlined.

They appeared to perform well on passenger workings as well as on freight workings on the London Midland Region during the 1960s prior to them all being withdrawn from traffic except one during 1966-67 with the last 12 of the class the 'dirty dozen' (and they were dirty) being withdrawn in December 1967 leaving just 70013 Oliver Cromwell to soldier on until the bitter end of steam in August 1968.
The Britannias that were withdrawn in December 1967-
70004 William Shakespeare
70012 John of Gaunt
70014 Iron Duke
70021 Morning Star
70022 Tornado
70023 Venus
70024 Vulcan
70025 Western Star
70035 Rudyard Kipling
70045 Lord Rowallan
70049 Solway Firth
70051 Firth of Forth

The good old Rail Rover ticket allowed me to see most of the surviving Brits in 1966 at Kingmoor. 0732 from Alnwick to Newcastle then across the N&C by the first available train, some good NCB and other industrial steam en route as a bonus.Another class almost complete at Carlisle was the Metrovicks with a lot of the class dead under repair at Upperby and a few coming into Kingmoor for servicing.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.
