I have been watching a new'ish dvd called Before The Wires released by Transport Video Publishing of Hemel Hempstead and I must say to my surprise it's a most enjoyable dvd to watch, infact so far i've watched it around 5 times since Saturday and counting!. The subject matter is about the impending electrification of the Midland main line route north of Bedford and features some archive film footage from 1983 shot around Irchester but the main archive film footage comes from mid-1987 of the route and mechanical signalling (just prior to the resignalling of that stretch of the main line in December 1987) at various locations such as Wellingborough Station, Finedon Road, Neilson's Sidings, Kettering Junction, Kettering Station & Glendon South Junction (of note the film footage shot trackside at Neilson's Sidings s/box is most enjoyable) also there is some more up to date contemporary film footage from March 2015 of various 'runbys' of passenger & freight trains as well, so all in all a very enjoyable dvd to watch.
Loco classes that are featured are-
1983 film footage shot around Irchester featuring BR corporate blue class 45s 'peaks' a couple of BR corporate blue class 31s and a BR corporate blue class 37.
1987 film footage shot around Wellingborough station, Finedon Road, Neilson Sidings, Kettering station & Glendon South Junction that features mainly HSTs plus a number of class 47s & class 56s the latter two classes on freight workings and a couple of BR corporate blue class 31s on parcel train workings around Kettering station plus a couple of shots of DMUs in BR blue/grey livery at Kettering station and passing Glendon South Junction.
A maroon livered Western diesel-hydraulic D1015 Western Champion is featured on a freight working from Finedon Road sidings in 2015.
The rest of the film footage features contemporary shots of 'modern diesel era classes' shot in 2015.
