I remember Mallard well on the Northern Rubber Special . It was booked a scheduled stop at Sowerby Bridge to take on water and watched by a very large crowd which surrounding the locomotive blocked both up and down lines.

At the time Alan Pegler, of Flying Scotsman fame, was chairman of Northern Rubber Company and this was a speial arranged by him for his employees.
