V2 4200 gal group standard tenders

Hello all!
I'm building a 5 inch gauge V2 starting with the tender, basically I'm trying to decide on which V2 to model and am pleading for photos, drawings etc. for all 3 types fitted to the V2s.

Namely the flared top type as fitted to the J38s/39s and D49s

The low coal space type fitted to 4771 at the moment

and the high coal space type which most V2s seemed to be fitted with.

Basically any detail of the tops and cab ends would be great so I can progress!

Afternoon all
My notes on V2 tenders:
4771-4790 Low front Flush sides
4791-4803 High front Flush sides
4804-4814 Low front Stepped out sides
4815-4899 High front Flush sides
3641-3695 High front Flush sides

There were odd cases of locos running with different tenders.

For pictures, Yeadons Register vol 4
For drawings Isinglass no 304

I have the Yeadons and RCTS books amongst others. In one of these somewhere it states that only 4811/60840 stayed with the same tender for the whole if its life (a flared top one at that).

I have googled Isinglass No 304 and am just getting pages of addresses, could you shed any more light for me please? Is it a book? This would be the most useful thing if it contains drawings of the tenders.

Next question (sorry!) what would be the easiest scale of isinglass drawings to scale up to 5" gauge scale? Or would it be set to just go for the biggest for clarity's sake?

Hi Ben

good to see you here... I'm sure you'll find answers to any LNER questions you have here... this forum has helped me greatly with my build. Regarding which scale drawing to get I'd go for the largest that Islington do which I believe is 10mm to foot or 1:32 scale.. 5" is 1:11.3 so a little use of the calculator should do nicely.... The smaller scale drawings are cheaper but perhaps not as easy to read even so if you choose one of those 7mm to foot is 1:43.5 and 00 is 1:76.

Hi Pete!

You were right, immediately lots of help and info, resulting in an Email being sent to Isinglass ref the tender drawings. I asked which is the biggest/clearest and will purchase those.

Workshop still being reassembled at the moment but a bit of CAD drawing on the laptop can be done without it.

Glad to see work on 4472 has recommenced.

Later on today on model pro boards ( on your thread Peter, BTW nice Porker, had the Royce out today for its first summer run) i am putting up my 'outside the box' 'blue sky thinking' way of getting the frames/wheels/ con rods organized, following two accidents and mishaps that at one point really made me want to give up
now i am not saying this is the way to go, BUT it kept my sanity and it works!!!

hopefully there will also be pics in all their gory detail

Sorry to be late on this post but have been on holiday. I have a copy of the 4200 Gal Straight sided tender GA, I have photographed it in 4 sections and can send it via email if of use to you. This is from the Oxford Publishing liasion with the NRM and is a copy of a microfilm/fische..... one of the better ones I have ! I believe I also have some pictures of the tender top while Green Arrow was on the NVR a few years ago.

If it's of any use John Edgson used to draw at 4mm scale and so any other print scales are enlargements. I don't know about the later drawings but his earlier ones were done on starched linen cloth with a ruling pen and Indian ink, including all of the lettering, and dyeline printed. I used to watch him work some lunchtimes. I don't think he changed his basic technique.
