Re: Daves C & W Works
D10C more lining applied....it's doing my eyes in, but worth it, part of the top line is being removed and redone, as I get use to these fiddly, thin transfers it gets
easier to apply straight, plus a door handle has been fixed now the door is lined, these are 51L versions, I still have a lot of Colin Ashby ones but they are not as fine.
D120 now has had is transfers applied, handrails and handles painted in Humbrol 186, a colour recommended several pages
ago by Mike Trice, pluse a coat of Vallejo satin varnish, and the solebars have had several coats of Humbrol 62, again by Mr T.
I must now think about glazing.
The LNER quad is coming along, now lettered and awaiting weathering etc, would it have 'N's at the ends in the late 30's like the Quint ?.

D10C.
Pressing on with lining out and as the doors are lined the 'D' handles are being fitted, these are from .04 brass wire bent to shape and slightly
flattened with smooth flat pliers.
NER Ballast Brake.
Some more bits added, just a couple more items and it can be primed.
NER B1.
Whilst the boss was watching soaps (I find them oh so boring) last night I thought I would look in the pile for a quick build, and decided on and this David Geen NER B1, it was done in just over an hour, now that is very fast for me, then disaster, whilst trimming off the flash around the W iron I snapped it orf...so a quick repair with some tinned brass wire and Bobs your auntie, as they say. The repair worked so well I also repaired an NER F2 which has been sat for years with the same problem. The white stuff is super glue which has been zapped with activator, and was used to glue the floor in place, some thin stuff and some thick....just needs a quick clean with a glass fibre pen.

Dave,
Guess what. I might just know a man who has plenty of spare axle boxes/w-irons/springs etc. etc. and they are available for the cost of the postage (or even free of charge by special courier to Wakefield!)

Re: Daves C & W Works
Again another wonderful Sunday evening modelling whilst the z list factor
and that fast moving drama, dropping asleep with bordom abbey, were on tv.
Having left my NER Ballast Brake, D120 and D10C at work by mistake, it was
dive into the kit pile again, as I did not feel like painting or sticking transfers
or should it be decals on some nearly finished items....I wanted action.
So with soldering iron switched on and wine to hand, and 2 fingers to elf and safety
I got stuck into a 51L NER C10 12t open goods wagon. this is complete except for the floor
which will be stuck in tonight. I built it with NER 3 bolt buffers, instead of the later
ribbed buffers that were also supplied. The solder on the corner plates is intentional, it's to
fill the gaps and will/is being removed, the blob on the solebar flowed through the joint
from the back, 70 deg never runs for me like that normally. Just noticed when taking the
photo, I've still to fix the door springs, another job for tonight. Having thought I had
finished the C10 and still with time to kill until the end of the drama ? and having wine
left, I went for another kit. This time a pair of 51L NER D1 8t single bolsters. This I found a fiddly
little sod to put together and I really felt the need for one of those Right Clamps Jonathan
has......or it was the wine ?. Anyway got one body built and the other body half built.....just
the w irons and underfloor stuff to add and they can join the queue for priming, when I get
some at Wakefield.
So ended a busy evening and not a burn mark on me to be seen, just the kitchen littered with bottles .

Re: Daves C & W Works
Yes Danby...flux bottles.
Found a can of etch primer in the shed, whilst looking for my drain rods, so I was able to spray the NER B1 and C10.
Now I'm not untidy in my shed realm, just everything is in boxes and containers neatly stacked, and if the wife puts somthing away...being helpful,
it gets lost....ie the can of primer.
NER B1, primed and coat of grey paint applied.
NER C10, solder cleaned up, primed and coat of grey paint applied.
D10C, fully lined this side and restaurant car decal (for our commonwealth cousins) applied, ex PC methfix. Now the lining (sorry about the bad pic)
works very well, I've experimented cutting tight to the lining and leaving an edge, I think cutting tight is best it allows you to see better how it
sits on the beading. You must use some transfer setting solution, they will not sit down without it. I used Micro Sol for this, but you have to work
fast as it softens very quickly and you can't alter it's position. It is also best to apply lining in short lengths.
Now it really grates looking at 'Restaurant Car' as it's to tall....is it not beyond some transfer maker out there
to produce some accurate LNER carriage lettering...Fox just arn't interested, tried them, so much for a researched product as they claim.
Just re attached D10C pic for some reason it was wrong way round, must say at low res it makes the lining look crooked....it is not in reality.

Re: Daves C & W Works
We have been aware that the Methfix/Pressfix transfers for Restaurant Car etc are too high for some years. I am not sure how this happened but I suspect that it was originally a misinterpretation of the information by Peter Chatham who, I think, did the original artwork back in the late 60s. He sold (as PC Models) the artwork to the HMRS who have not been interested in rectifying the mistake. Several of us have spoken to Mike Watts about producing some decent lettering transfers, but he does not seem to be interested. Maybe there is a golden opportunity there for someone for both 4mm and 7mm?
Incidentally the class designations of 1st 2nd and 3rd are correct.

Re: Daves C & W Works
Similar problem for the D&S Dynamometer car kits released a year ish ago . No decals at all for this one , somebody was supposed to be doing some ?? Jonathan W was trying to arrange ( or knows someone who is trying to do them?). Seems pointless building the kit if you can't finish it !!
Very annoying

Re: Daves C & W Works
Returning to the matter of transfers: I note that Fox do now produce in 4 and 7mm transfers for Sleeping Car and Buffet Car in their range of water slide transfers. The small print also mentions that Restaurant Car can be made up from two sheets with a little cutting and 'pasting'! Quite a good financial wheeze for them.

Re: Daves C & W Works
Mick B, thats why I've not started my Dynamometer car yet.
2512silverfox, Fox told me the same thing regarding Restaurant Car lettering when I enquired, I thought I'm being taken for a ride here, yes it's only the large letters that are too high, all the rest are ok.
There must be a market for correct LNER carriage lettering, I can't believe no one has filled this void.
Painted and weathered these 2 over the weekend, internal strapping added to the empty one and real coal to the loaded one.

Re: Daves C & W Works
Happy new year to you all (a bit late but who cares) and time for an update.
Over the Christmas holidays (3 weeks how did I manage that ?) I found sometime
to get some modelling done. I need to make a good effort to complete stuff, so to that end
here is what I managed.
Slaters MR cattle wagon, started before I dated stuff so must be from the 90's, painted and roof fixed waiting transfers.
Mr Geen's NER G2 Vans, all have had their roof doors added, these are from 2000,1,3 & 14 so about time for the early ones.
Slaters NER P7 Hoppers, iron work painted and transfers started to be added, these were all built in 2000 and were painted later
with german Panzer grey acrilyc paint around 2003 when I was starting to venture into AVF's, not a bad match for LNER grey.
I think it was a Humbrol acrylic paint I used but can't quite remember.
David Geen NER Q1 Loco coal wagon, I built in 1998, has been painted and had it's buffers fitted. the half round indent in the side was
in the the kit when I bought it, I don't know if I will keep this wagon as since I bought it I've moved my modelling timeline to after they were withdrawn, this also applies to the L&Y D3 van.
David Geen NER B1, transfers started to be fitted.
I think a David Geen L&Y dia 16, built 2003, painted.
Parkside LNER Cattle wagon, built 1997, roof fitted, painted, transfers started, needs brakes (Masokits).
David Geen L&Y D3 van built 2002, painted, needs roof door finishing.
David Geen L&Y D73 vans I built in 2001, now painted and transfers started to be fitted for some reason I had started to paint the roofs then stopped,
you can see that on the G2 vans. I took off the roof door strips on the grey van as they were coming off, they will be refixed tonight as I have some spare time as my mate has man flue and we were going to see American Sniper..now cancelled till next week.
So a good start to getting 3 boxes of part finshed wagons and carriages completed.....it won't last I can tell you.

Re: Daves C & W Works
Been very busy of late with DIY at childrens houses...they are not just for Christmas you know, but I have pushed on throught the pile.
David Geen L&Y Dia 19 cattle wagon - finished building and primed, says started 2003.
D&S GE MAC K - in final stages of finishing ready for priming, quick on this, only started last year, but been in the draw for years. Thanks Jonathan for the info, when I went back to it at the weekend I got the fillets to fit by fitting the body to the chasis first then sliding them in....no problems this time.
