Held by 62005 isn't it, currently? Further - GWR connotations aside, having two engines named the same in preservation would be a trite difficult to manage.

It was on Monday; has it become a permanent fixture?

I'm inclined to agree with Larry here; for maximum impact and publicity, Cock O'The North has to have it.

Indulging in humour for a moment (as some might see it)......

Some feel that COTN is out because the loco isn't to be a faithful duplicate. "Hen of the North" :? would, by analogy with the V4s, be a possibility, although of somewhat confused derivation and hardly likely to be charismatic.
Maybe it ought to be "Phantom Cock"

I must admit Lord of the Isles is a name i was mulling over but discounted due to GWR connections we cant have that lot(and to use an LNER derived metaphor) crowing over us. I still havent forgiven them the desecration of an original O6 in the chase for a Saint.
Incidentally there was an A3 model for many years collecting coins for railway charities at Berwick Station with the name Border Lass that could be used.
Another name i like is a modification of 52As choice to The Reiver.

A glance at the original names shows them to by upfront masculine names apart from Mons Meg...

Cock 'O the North
Earl Marishal
Lord President
Mons Meg
Thane of Fife
Wolf of Badenoch

If a new name has to be chosen one should avoid names like 'Ginger Wig oop North'...

How about "Highland Lassie", which was the mane given to the rebuild version that "LBSC" designed (in 3.5 in gauge.

In keeping with "used to be" names looking for new formal recognition and the scottish context how about " Clan Commander" ?

Re: the comment above about trying to find a name that expresses the 'feel' of the engineand which is memorable and does not have any relations to historic or already preserved locomotives, how about 'Titan'?

It would fit well with 'Tornado' and captures the scale and 'oomph' of the P2s.

Nah it would end up hitting a small stone which would turn out to be a big rock.

I like Titan.
Maybe a greek god's name.

Has a top link engine driver ever been honoured by having a loco named after him ?
These guys were the unsung heroes of the steam world yet little or no recognition.
How about >- Callum MacRaild a real Scottish name.

Gentlemen it's got to be 'Cock O'The North' because it's an L.N.E.R. locomotive. I think the 'old man' would agree to that. Lord of the Isles sounds to much like that Dean GWR single wheeler!. Micky GNR/NER/LNER all the way...
