Loco could be an R or R1 class. Sorry, not up on the number series.
EDIT: Definitely an R1 (D21) not an R (D20). That boiler is too big abd it ain't an Atlantic. Still not sure about the number?

Further to my promise and BBs identification, from Hooles NER Locomotive Stock at 31/12/20 No.1238 is indeed an R1 built November 1908 and withdrawn March 1945. At the date above the loco was York based. Possibly York based at date of postcard as well.
