Thanks again for the tips. My layout will be freelance rather than based on Rothbury station, although I was inspired by a model of it that I saw, unfinished, at BorderRail in Hawick two years ago. The attached images are pictures I took of the turntable and this is pretty much how I want my one to look.

I saw the layout at BorderRail the next year in a much more complete form and noticed that the guide rails were so un-circular that they couldn't have been for anything more than cosmetic purposes. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask the operator how it worked :(

Amazely, I noticed that the track plan of my layout-in-progress is very similar to that of that layout. Maybe I was more inspired than I originally thought!

Sorry for the delay - I HATE computers, and they know it!!

Engine Shed Road's modified Helijan turntable:

Incidentally, there is also a vacuum tractor out of shot which was filched from an Airfix / Dapol turntable kit.
If I ain't here, I'm in Bilston, scoffing decent chips at last!!!!

It appears on Google Earth there is still a turntable at Heaton Depot.

Table at Heaton was latterly used to turn HSTs to even out tyre wear.
