Looking through some 1965 Railway Observers, I found this report.

"On 25th January trials were conducted with 4S37 cement train which was diverted via Hither Green, Blackfriars, Farringdon and the Widened Lines. D6573 was assisted by a 34G D50xx Type2 from Farringdon to Finsbury Park; special instructions were given that signalmen at Kings Cross Main Line must not accept the train until the line was clear to Copenhagen Junction."

I would have loved to have seen this, but I suppose that it is too much to hope that one day a photograph might surface of the working? The report does not say if the trial was repeated on any more days.


[Edited] to add that further down that page it is noted that, on 6th January 1965 60156 was seen on the southbound cement empties at Newark, on the 9th Jan it was headed by D1525 and 25th Jan 60155. Sadly, none of these reports mention how far south of Newark those locos progressed.
