Good morning all
The P1 can be produced from the Hornby A1. Atlantic 3279 did a superb one as while ago, and demonstrated it at an exhibition, and the video of a P1 double heading another P1 was taken and posted.
If the Hornby P2 will haul 20 coaches, then a P1 should handle 60 wagons. However, I wonder if the power/adhesion can be increased by 67%.

G'Day Gents
Well, with wagons about 10 BP x 100= 1,000 + the price of the loco 100BP aaaaaah about 1100BP, but have you got lay-by sidings long enough........... and wallet not deep enough.
Still think that Hornby would be on a winner.............again

Second motor in the tender perhaps?
May be academic anyway since so few people have the space for a train almost 9m long.
Atlantic's conversion was another good one. Probably the thing that first got me hooked on his threads.

Yep, I'd probably buy one too.
A Sentinel railcar would also be nice even with their restricted geography.
Despite this and the fact I have a P2 on order, I'd much rather see more workhorses produced along the lines of the Q6, O4, J15 etc.

G'day all
It was probably Atlantic 3279's P1 that hooked me on these forums as well. It was always one loco that I liked, and wanted. I still want one, but I have built the chassis and have a Hornby A1 body to convert.
However, it would need a lot of lead to get the required adhesion.
I don't even have enough track for a 100 wagon train or even a 20 carriage train.
I test locos by pushing a train of white metal tenders up a very slight incline. I think that pushing a load it a better measurement than pulling as you don'y get the coupling slack to help the loco handle the load.
The best loco that I've measured is a Little Engine T1 with sidetanks full of lead and using a Mashima 1628 through a 108:1 gearbox. It will push a weight of 2.42kg, which I estimate is equivalent to 65 wagons. It's not very speedy, but hump shunters weren't built for speed.
I am wandering off the title subject, so perhaps I ought to buy a Hornby P2 and test it up the Earlswood Incline (in real life 1 in 246 rising through the tunnel).

If you are talking about RTR coaches or wagons all the 'big engine' models of the LNER will easily handle such loads on track not too far off level. My equivalency rate determined by testing is four SWB wagons per coach. The Bach 9F which is decently weighted and the most direct equivalent to a P1 available in RTR will start and pull 39 Bach mk1 coaches in a straight line (I have a friend with a huge barn) roughly 160 wagons if you had the patience to put them all on the track.earlswood nob wrote:...If the Hornby P2 will haul 20 coaches, then a P1 should handle 60 wagons. My e-mail inbox this afternoon tells me that Hattons have now processed my order for the posh one, much to my relief. It was ordered early enough, AND based on recent experience I'd made sure they had updated credit card details. I was however wondering whether their silence so far indicated that Hornby had not favoured them with a delivery....
Price as originally agreed way back in December 2012. Marvellous model for less than a ton. What's to complain about?
