Looking at the D 14/15/16 page, purely surmise, might the alternating allocations have been to cover the D 14 rebuilding programme?

Anything weird or unusual will catch my interest, be it an express or locomotive

I'm also drawn to the commemorative, let's hope Bachmann will produce 6165 Valour.

Gents, many thanks for your replies. I'm well aware of the differences between tank and tender engines, unfortunately my first glimpse at the photograph was at a family party where I was asked if I could trace any information and shown the photo in a darkened hall with a disco blaring, strobe lights flashing and a few pints inside me.I quickly glanced at the running number and made a note.In the following days I remembered the request and tried to visualize the photo again while I made my post on here.It is only this last week that I now have my hands on the actual photo and can see my mistake.

Anyways, thank you so much to everyone who has provided some information,a little piece of history for the family tree

Hi Dave,
didn't mean to insult you, just a comment about things that I see somewhat daily.

Glad to help though. It has raised as many questions as it answered, and shown how many pre grouping locos were still being built after 1923. What has piqued my interest is its movements between stratford and southend during 1930.
