"The Power of Love" by Huey Lewis and the News (theme tune to the 1985 film "Back to the Future") always reminds me of a hot June day in 1985 and "Northern Chief" on the RH&DR.
I was waiting at Botolph's Bridge Road to get a photo of the penultimate departure from Hythe and just as the "Chief" came into sight going like a bat out of hell that's what came on on my Walkman.

Re: Song titles for locomotives
And the hits just keep on coming . . .
Going back to Earlswood Nob's opening post, how about The Dave Clark Five's "Catch Me if You Can" for Mallard?
And for 'boat trains' there's Frankie Ford's "Sea Cruise".
Then there's, in my case anyway when it comes to anything other than steam, Rod Stewart's "I Don't Wanna Talk About It".
Or, Tina Turner's "Simply the Best" for A3s.
Um, The Beach Boys' "Do You Wanna Dance” for Tangos.
Hank Williams' "Oh Lonesome Me" for the W1.

A couple of other ones: Locomotive Breath - Jethro Tull and Last Train To London by ELO. Also, how about Chris Rea - Deltics.

For any non-tank engine, Elvis's "Love me tender".
For an interloping mogul from the Southern "The wonder of U"

Re: Song titles for locomotives
a bit off subject but I have one verse rail song that sticks in my mind but I just cannot remember who sang it ( it may have been Tommy Cooper)
It goes
The train was standing in the station
When a young man full of care
Rushing for to get aboard it
Tripped fell head long down the stairs
An old lady rushed up to him
Said did you miss a step my son?
He turned to her said no lady
I missed every blinking one
It goes

When a young man full of care
Rushing for to get aboard it
