I was told by a p.way man about 10-15 years ago that there was only 6 S&C tampers in the whole country the rest are just plain line tampers.

At onetime it was quite normal for these machines (usually plain line tampers) to break down when working in a engineering possession although you don't hear that so much now days maybe the machines are better maintained?.

There are currently 5 07 S+C Tampers in Preservation or stored.

The remainder have over the last 2 years been scrapped.

However there are at least 26 New machines in use now on the Network possibly more
