Plat 1 was clear yesterday just plat2 to finish.
As for being dark under the roof.
Have you been to Filey?
Same roof and not very dark at all.
I stand to be corrected but comparing Filey http://www.transportheritage.com/find-h ... obi2Id=368 to the Pickering photo I mentioned the Filey roof appears to be higher and wider, and in the photo it appears very dark, so much so that in one of those photos they have the lights on during daylight.
From a talk given by the Project Manager last night.
The Overall roof at Pickering is of a wider span than Filey.
He was also quite adamant that light conditions will surprise a lot of doubters.
We will have to wait and see to decide on that one way or another.
The roof is programmed to be substantially in place, but not complete, by March 24th this year.
The intention is all steelwork in place, Hipped ends and at least some of the main timbering in place by then.
The intention of the project manager is to have the roof substantially complete by March 24th.
This means all trusses in place and timbering placed but possibly not slated.
However from my understanding of the method of working it will be partially slated as the contractors work along the roof following each other in sequence.
This was the state of play yesterday afternoon.
All available trusses had been installed but further crane work deferred due to high winds, awaiting next batch to be delivered to Newbridge yard.
These arrived on a trailer this lunchtime. Last seen being inspected.
This mornings state of play with the roof.
Slates starting to appear and glazing panels fitted to the roof lights.
Project manager still saying that station will be operational on March 26th.
Classed as substantially complete if the boarding is completed to enable internal station scaffolding to be removed.
Working from South to North.
Slating can continue after trains start running.
I have just spent a couple of days under the roof on the LNERCA sales stand and have to say what an improvement, the old BR canopies were quite low and oppressive the new roof makes the station look much bigger and impressive. It is a tad darker but I have no problem with that, it was not designed as Scarborough Lido, stations were designed to be functional and it is certainly nowhere near as dark as Birmingham New street or Euston! This is an achievement the NYMR can be truly proud of, but for some reason they seem to be keeping quiet about it.
