Church Fenton station

Okay,i couldn't fox you guys with Church Fenton-how about Burton Salmon?It must have been more than just a junction at one time.Taking photo's there must have been safer than on the bridge nowadays!I've seen a photo that shows a signal box where the Castleford and Sheffield lines part,but that's all.

The steam video about signalling can be viewed in the signalbox next to the cafe in the great hall of the NRM.
The NRM also have a set of 5 Plans and Elevations of the station and signalbox, code numbers 21473 through to 21477.Have you tried Colour Rail?

Thankyou so much for those pics pinza-i can't believe how much that station has been butchered.Yes,the indian restaurant is still there!Opposite that building is a new block of flats(sorry,apartments!)-drive down to the end of their road,and there is a small cul-de-sac with a gate alongside the York-Sheffield line.Should be perfect for morning "Flyers" next year.

To be fair to British Rail, it must have cost a fortune to maintain as it was in 1979 for the very small number of people who use it.Glad you like the pix!

I would be very interested to know if there is any photos of the 'old' station building before its revamp, I mean the original 1847 built one. My great grandfather was a long serving NER Employee and I have been tracing his family, which interests me as I work on the railway too. [In fact a lot of my family have since at least 1861]. He is listed on the 1871 census as being Station Master at Kirk Fenton Station. He lived there for about 15 years or so. He went to Forge Valley as Station Master in 1890. I assume Kirk Fenton was quite a small station when first opened.
