Re: LNER Coronation coaches
For my Silver Jubilee set I used Bare Metal Foil sheets , I used the Chrome version cut into strips using a sharp scalpel blade , I used the same type of strips for my "Coronation" versions of the A4's, it bends nicely around any curves when required e.g the curve on the side panels by the A4 cylinders. Once varnished it kills the gloss finish and they blend in nicely.
Very surprising the Hornby Coronation sets are now appearing on E bay @ £135 a pair with no bidders so far.
At over 6ft long plus the Loco they far too long for my layout. I simply dont particularly like the Hornby renditions with some strange features/errors. They removable Brake ends (why?) with lower Roofs than the centre part and obvious side gaps. Very pronunced moulded strip beading along the sides and end of the Observation Car which should be flush with sides was the last mistake I noticed, I haven't bothered looking further.
This photo has appeared on the Dark Side, it looks like the Silver Beading line is crooked at the end nearest in the photograph.
