A Short tale on the GER Crest.Purchased from the late lamented GERS museum at North Woolwich station ( there was a beautiful 5in original Claud model there as well) as an unpainted Aluminium castings of the crest for the then princely sum off 12.50

As luck would have it GERS journal had an article on crests and colours and along with the painting notes this was the result. A few months later about 1982ish i was visiting Bob Todds house ( one day i will put up some pics ) who had about 25 nameplates from all regions along with a Met electric one, Headboards Whistles as a 'SMALL!!! collection

He had a crest on the wall and i casually asked how he found painting the belt fading around the buckle area.
His answer...That is an original one from either a D16 or B12 Now as they were all removed where fitted, in 1923, that must have been purchased by his Dad as Bob was born in 1922.

What bugs me is that the Yeadons series intended to include volumes on each of the constituent companies tender. They only brought out the GC ones.
When i rang Booklaw they said they will not do anymore ... Great...... LIke reading War and Peace and finding the last three pages missing

Perhaps if we got all the LNER modellers and interested parties together to ask...........

I wasn't sure how you were orienting yourself, Bob - it was the side with the pipe I thought you were referring to and when I Googled 62576 (which is a loco I have also built), that was the onylyview of that side which came up, all the others were of the opposite side. Conventionally, of course, that is the RHS when viewed from the driving position.

Hi Jonathan, we are clearly talking of 2 different pipes. I am referring to a short L shaped pipe on the lhs which emerges from the smoke box horizontally below the centreline and turns thru 90 degrees to pass thru the footplate vertically. I would estimate it as at least 6 inches in diameter maybe more.

In that case we are talking different pipes.

Here is the other side of 62576 if you can see through the watermark; I've just flicked through all my scanned D16 shots and none of them have that pipe in BR days.

Nothing beats photographic evidence, thank you. Couldn’t they have put the water Mark just a bit off centre?

PS 62576 looks in great condition, any idea when the pic was taken? Stupid boy, 1952! Just read the caption.

Me again. I want to add rivets to the smoke box with Archers. They seem to label their product according to the full size, ie 7/8” etc. Can somebody please tell me what size the rivets around the smoke box were?

I have a works drawing of the B17 Smokebox .Ity shows rivets as 5/8d ( i think that the head is 2x the diameter so you could be looking at 1.25d head size
Could anyone confrim that

The pipe being referred to above on the LHS of the base of the smokebox is a cover over the exhaust steam injector.

Thanks for the reply.
I have now found a pic on line (after a long search) by Geoff Plumb showing 62588 at Cambridge on 23/4/58. The Loco is externally very tidy and an added bonus for me is the livery is unlined black. It should make a nice subject for the model.

62588 was allocated to Cambridge between May 1957 and withdrawal in September 1958, apart from 3 months at Kings Lynn between March and June 1958, according to the book I have.
