One (or two?) custom-cut 10 thou wrappers of plasticard would fatten the B12/3 boiler up a treat and match it to the prototype and to the fattened smokebox. You could stop the wrappers at splasher top level to save some really awkward shaping and to keep the firebox waist narrow, A bit of very careful blending of the lower edge with filler would eliminate and visible step. I'm sure it would make the finished loco so much more realistic........

The Atlantic looks greatly improved.

Good point Graeme, no idea of the Boiler dimensions as GER is not my area, does anyone know please ?? I will then give it some thought :D :D

Re B12/3 it had a 22mm boiler diameter. Hornbys has a 24mm diameter already :? :shock:

5' 6" diameter over the largest ring of the actual pressure vessel in the case of the B12/3 boiler I believe, plus a fairly generous Stratford thickness of cladding, so should be a bit fatter than the boilers as modelled on the B1, B17, D49, J39, lagged in accordance with Doncaster/Darlington practices, I seem to remember. Might be as well to double-check that Hornby measurement - is it really as large as 24mm?

If correct, then a 15thou thickness of wrapper(s) on the boiler would certainly be justified.

Could it be the Smokebox is too large ? and therfore that is where the problem lies.
After liasing with Jim this one is staying as it is. To do anything to the smokebox would destroy the new etches so not viable.

Certainly looking considerably better than the standard Hornby model - hope you've not be cursing me too much over the wheels Mick? :)

Probably the best B12 outside of a few kit built ones I have ever seen. Lovely work Mick.

Mick - it really does look very good indeed.

Do you mind just explaining what you get in the Crownline kit?
Would it be possible to get a similar(ish) result by extending the body with a second B12 body and creating a wrapper for the smokebox?
