Lovely jubbly

Post by Kestrel »

Did anyone pickup from the Budget that DelBoy's Reliant, and its cousins, are now road tax exempt?

The exemption also includes MGBs and Allegros. Whilst there's numerous restored MGBs around, I wouldn't have thought there's many Allegros.

The outlaws had one in the late 70s after their daughter wrote off their 'treasured' Morris Ital.

Does it include Montegos?

A friend once had such an unreliable version that he made a simple alteration to the chrome lettering on the back of the car.

He turned the 'M' upside down, making a 'W' and removed the 'e' altogether. It then read 'Wont go' which we thought was most appropriate.

So he started moving the "Classic Car" free road tax cut-off again?
I know it was frozen at 31st Dec 1972 just as my Land Rover was about to be tax free.

Official delivery to Ashchurch was 17th Jan 1973. I managed to get a copy of the Solihull production log page - it rolled off the production line in December 1972 (26th iirc) - and that was good enough for the DVLA! :-)

Ay up!

Another nickname for the Allegro is the All Aggro which I like. Not a bad looking car but one your spanners would get to know very well indeed! I used to know a chap who had a brand new Morris Marina TC that the garage refused to let him take away after its 1st MOT - such was the extent of structural rot in this 3 yr old car.....

O' the joys of motoring , whilst i enjoy tax exemption with the Plas , the 'Preston Princess' is both tax and mOT exempt  , also its nice to see the OP got the pronounciation of Reliant's products correct , one often heres them refered to as Robin Reliants , there is some interesting findings it you where to delve into the history of Tamworth's infamous plastic pig's ,

( ancient Tamworth proverb - "a bird in the hand is worth 2 overturned" )

The pedantic amongst us will know that the Trotters' van in Only Fools And Horses is a Reliant Regal.

That model was replaced by the Robin in the mid 70s I believe.

har' now is the said Regal van DHV 935D , if so that makes it a Rolly , also you fail to mention if its a 21E , that also will complicate matters for later episodes , as several changes was made to the supporting trikes in the show witch would make them Toplie's , also could you please state the episode the Robin was the star ?

Owned, rebuilt and run quite a few Morris 1000's. Hugely dated styling for much of their production time but technically and practically speaking they were still one of the better choices for much of their life. By far the most endearing feature is the sound of the exhaust on the over-run. Magic!
This unit is fitted with a tea and/or biscuit deprivation sensor.
Activation will result in mumbling, ranting, discoord*%$"ion )&$&"! and )*($£

As a kid went on holiday to Cornwall in a Moggie Traveller.
Pre M5 every hill we went down resulted in the engine backfiring.
Made me think of a western and the baddies riding into town shooting the place up.

Used to switch engine on and off in the Tyne Tunnel on LTY495E it produced a suitable echoing backfire.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.
