Colour of shaded numbers during war time black livery.

Can anyone help with the colour used during war time black for the shaded numbers.I can only trace B&W photos ,which are not too helpful.A4 & DES1 in particular.Thanks in anticipation 2502.

Standard yellow characters and letters as for pre war black locos.
