Nope, Leaman Road is being scrapped. New layout is completely prototypical, I.e modelling a real place.

Next loco out of works.

In my modelling period, 4466 is one of Grantham's two A4s, along with 4494 'Osprey'. Although I couldn't find a photo from the months I am modelling (1938), I took the opinion that as these were Grantham's only A4s, they would be kept in a rather clean condition. Even though clean, you can see the typical build up of dirt around the valance rivets. It seems even on clean locos, this was the first area to collect dirt and is apparent in most prewar photos. I wonder if it's oil seepage from the outside cylinders.

I have also taken into account, that the A4 if working down from Grantham, so she is around 120 miles from home...that is sufficient time for a dusting of dirt to build up.

Linked to the blog update above, I did have an enjoyable afternoon visit from jwealleans and scottiedog. After an enjoyable pub lunch at my local, we headed back to mine to discuss LNER 1930s rolling stock.

Very interesting day all round I think....and dare I say it, I'm finding rolling stock more interesting than locomotives. I think the technical term for that is the 'Wealleans Effect'.

You seemed almost tempted to back date due to a very nice piece of rolling stock on Mr Wealleans workbench (It did look very nice).

There was certainly a lot more variety in rolling stock. The NER and the LNER were very good at providing stock for a specific service and upgrading it on a train-by-train basis. This approach was not driven by the CME, as far as I can tell, but by the devolved, area approach, structure of the LNER itself.

And this, joking aside, is why I would never seriously backdate - it would be a whole new learning curve. Besides, I'm still discovering new minutiae relating to '60s and '70s stock
