Hi
I am trying to identify the location of this photo from an old negative. It shows C12 Class No 67391 at an unknown location with carriage E80177E part of an articulated set seen behind and a very distinctive coaling tower in the background which I havent been able to match to any in books. Any ideas welcome- I think the photo was likely taken c. 1958 and others from the collection were taken at Derby Friargate and Grantham and Sheffield Darnall if that's any help! I am sure someone will come up with the answer so thanks for all efforts!

It is taken at Grantham. The link below shows the shed.
67391 was at that shed from 1955 until withdrawal in January 1958.

Re: Mystery Location
Agree John, the coaling tower is also a give away.

Yes, and I am sure that the spotters were "delighted" at that line of coaching stock obscuring the numbers of just about every loco on the shed. Although if they were lucky, a few might be visible through the windows.
Such was the everyday frustration of the humble trainspotter. I wonder just how many locos we "missed" in situations such as that?

Re: Mystery Location
Thanks guys for a lightning response. I wondered about Grantham but could not find a pic of the coaling tower, although oddly the one at Colwick looked very similar. So how about this one-64235 on a passenger working and could it be a part of a Y final letter on the nameboard on extreme left (if it is a nameboard!)
All help much appreciated of course.

Re: Mystery Location
The J6 is at Derby Friargate, the station nameboard only saying Derby.
Found a picture in the Friargate Line, confirming position of water crane and building on the opposite platform. The loco was a Colwick one presumably on a Nottingham Victoria-Friargate working, taking water before running round.
This picture is from a slightly different angle:

Re: Mystery Location
The loco has a 38A shed plate, so is from Colwick, probably before July 1958 when the code changed to 40E.
The photographer is at the south western end of Frairgate. So it looks like a late afternoon/early evening shot. Has the loco just brought in the train from Nottingham?
