As this, now that I've found it again, is perhaps a more appropriate thread for discussions regarding 2007 (as opposed to the 2001 Cock o' the North thread) I may as well mention here too that the scheme featured on "Inside Out" on the BBC last night. Some links to the programme are posted in that other thread (it's also in the "locos and rolling stock" section if you are looking for it).
Specs so far confirmed are 250psi boiler, 19.75" cyl dia.
So what shall we name the new P2?

Afternoon all
According to my calculations, 250psi and 19.75" diam cylinders give the same Tractive Effort as the original P2.
Will that boiler lead to a rebuilt W1 following Cock 'o the North.
Trouble is that if the P2 takes seven years, and the W1 another seven years after that. I shall be very old before I get chance to travel behind it.

For those with a real interest in the P2SLC, the founders club is still open and arrangements for those wishing to become covenanters are now set up. Funding is already appearing at a healthy rate and plans are well organised.

I note the new P2 will be called "Prince of Wales". A more authentic choice would have been something Scottish, preferably in Gaelic that I've no idea how to pronounce.
That aside, I wish the project well. A far more worthwhile enterprise than a loco that looks identical to one prepared earlier (Blue Peter) unless you've got a tape measure.

Sounds to L.N.W.R./G.W.R.'ish to me but there you go.kudu wrote:I note the new P2 will be called "Prince of Wales". A more authentic choice would have been something Scottish, preferably in Gaelic that I've no idea how to pronounce.
Should have been ALAN FRANCIS PEGLER OBE
Re: So what shall we name the new P2?
Not sure that it is appropriate - there's no link with Pegler to the group that built Tornado as far as I'm aware? Most appropriate would have been Malcolm Crawley if we are going down the tribute route, however we must accept that Prince of Wales (also used on an A3 Pacific so there is an LNER link at least) is a very marketable name and that will have been part and parcel of the discussions as to how to capitalise on the building of a P2 and make it effectively fund itself. A name which the public will recognise is part of that.
Re: So what shall we name the new P2?
Well regardless of the name you think it should carry the locomotive is starting to come to life with the rolling of the frames at TATA Steel, Scunthorpe today.
