well I'd guess that both the above locos were kitbuilt, so you must have done something right! I have always fancied a J52, (in wartime GNR grey)- they were very handsome locos.

I had a crack at drilling handrails today, and it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be (using solder paint makes soldering the rail into the base easy enough to ensure I don't melt the white metal body). I would like to see the J50 with handrails added, I think that would make it look easily the equal of current rtr offerings.

regards,
Will

Thanks guys,

Will, I found that putting on handrails wasn't a big problem on my J6 - never used handrail knobs though, just shaped the wire a little and blobs of glue. However, came across an interesting blog on the 2mm website re building a D49 - the handrails are etched! Can you tell?

Might be one to try should I get the build kitted!

Well just about finished the J50 - just the front handrails to do (buffers are included this time! ) Pics below.

Also I found an old loco body sitting in my scrap box from an ebay win a few years ago (£2.50) - have I committed a sin cutting it up? Answers on a postcard please...

Nice work on the J50 Steve. Credit where it is due for all of this scratch building and conversion work in N gauge. Don't know if your latest surgery is a sin or not. I guess it depends on what you are going to turn it in to. I presume this is the beginnings of the P1?

Cheers....Morgan

Morgan, yes this is the very early stages of a P1, I keep finding that I start projects and then put them to one side... I've still got a J52, V1 and several pacifics to finish....

Rob P thanks for the kind words, I think likewise on the kits that you've started to build... Can't wait to see more! 8)
