B17 Steam Locomotive Trust
Does anyone on here know the what the latest news is on this project.?
The Website has not been updated since Dec 2012!!!!
There has been nothing at all in any of the railway periodicals on progress
And even as a member ( well i think i still am, as it appears that now to be so, you need to donate a minimum over £120.00 pa, which due to some nutter doing several hundred pounds worth of damage in a car park, and the pooch needing an op, the B17 suddenly wasn't top of my priority list) i have not received any notifications at all, apart from a brief note about the AGM in Sept.
In fact the other B17 group have had minimal press coverage over the last 12 months.
Have both of them 'died' due to lack of interest?, or has the timescale been put back so far, due to lack of incoming cash, that my grandson might not even see it steam?

As far as I'm aware, the Manchester United group has a tender in primer being restored for cosmetic purposes.

Ay up!
They were at Barrow Hill. They're concentrating on fundraising at the moment.

Dunno about that - I was under the impression that they were going to have 1 loco with both GS and GE tenders. Yes, they were the "FRAMLINGHAM HALL" crowd, now I think about it.

Re: B17 Steam Locomotive Trust
Have been to the Watford Finescale show today and the B17 Steam Locomotive Trust have a display stand. Spoke to one of the guys for a few minutes and they are in the middle of fund raising for the frames.
The cost of the frames is £48500.00, he said so far they have about half the amount. They also had a list of other parts and their cost, but can not remember what they were, sorry.
The locomotive is being built so it is capable of operating with either the GE pattern tender or the LNER Group Standard tender.
Perhaps if any other member of this forum goes they can enlighten further.
Regards
Richard

Re: B17 Steam Locomotive Trust
Just wondering, but has the football club been approached for a donation? After all, the loco is carrying the club's name. For what they spend on players, you'd think a bit of comparatively small change could fall the society's way.
Re: B17 Steam Locomotive Trust
52D, they are two seperate entities, although they did start off as one!!
AFAIAA, the current situation is this
The B17 trust is going for a loco name Spirit of Sandringham.
It is being aimed mainly at the East Anglian catchment area, and it would also appear that the 'football series' will not be pushed at all.
The 61662 lot are a sub group of the NBL society, and whilst it would seem that the club give them some column space in the programme now and again, there is no monetry assistance, Cant see why, the club is only 350m in debt!!!!
However they could be also running under an illusion insofar that whilst it is claimed that the club is the best supported in the world, it is also the most despised..yes even more than Chelsea. so what football supporting rail enthusiat who doesnt support ManU would even considered putting money to it ( I include myself in that group)
I fear that one will go under, as there isnt going to be enough interest to support the building of 2, similar to the two P2s that are underway
The A1 group certainly have taken a great leap, esp with getting HRH 'on board'.
Well thats how i understand it as of about 8 months ago. Neither appear to be very pro active in either the press or the website, alhough 61662 are a bit more up to date.
Now IF here is a third group building Framlingham Hall, i would seriously recomend that all three get together and just do the one!!!!!!

That makes sense to me, Silver Fox. Consolidate the forces.
Re: B17 Steam Locomotive Trust
Whatever happens it's great to see this tender getting a good lick of paint. I used to see it stood in that scrap yard all the time, along with an LMS tender as well I think? Wasn't the scrap yard owner on about building a V4? Did anything ever come of this ?S.A.C. Martin wrote:Yes it is Tom.
