Sounds useful. Do you want to reveal a price please, by PM if preferred?

Both gas and vacuum tanks were attached to cross bearers by two straps. There was a wooden filling piece with a cut out that matched the diameter of the tank. When everything was assembled the top of the tank was a few inches below the top of the solebars.Atlantic 3279 wrote:And here, although not photographed to pro standard, is a better picture of the recent coach conversions which now have all of their lining (yippee!) but still need numbers, dirty roofs and end-bellows. I've only shown two underframes, as the upper pair are alike, ditto the lower pair.

I'd be willing to swap for a black group standard tender if you have one spare?Atlantic 3279 wrote:Sounds useful. Do you want to reveal a price please, by PM if preferred?

Bill: Ah.....I thought somebody might notice my lazy dodge, used in haste to be ready for this weekend's final trial running session for Grantham. I'll trim the castings to amend the fit in due course.......
Will: Ta, I'll have a look and let you know what I have in a day or two.

Re: Atlantic's works inc. RTRconversions. Hornby GN coaches
On hold until the Barrow Hill event is over. My previous "improved V2" will do the duties for this show, for which much remains to be prepared. It became apparent last week that if I pushed ahead at breakneck speed with the V2 I might just manage to get it ready, but with faults that I would not like, in time for Barrow Hill. It will produce a far better resin master if I take more time.

Re: Atlantic's works inc. RTRconversions. Hornby GN coaches
Good morning all and hip-hip-hooray it's dry, but rain to come again later
I'm a fan of Comet chassis, as they're easy to build, look good, and run well.
They are not cheap as it costs over £100 to build a V2 chassis with Markits wheels, Mashima motor and High Level gears.
I need to build another one for a Nucast V2 whuich still has the old cast chassis.
I built one a little while ago and made two sets of RHS valve gear, so if I build another one with two sets of LHS valve gear, I shall have two correct chassis. I will then be tempted to fit one V2 with an early GS 4200 tender with stepped out sides which were fitted to some V2's.
I learn much from this forum, but then I had much to learn.

Re: Atlantic's works inc. RTRconversions. Hornby GN coaches
I'm considering building the comet chassis for two reasons - I've already got the 6'2" markits driving wheels from an aborted PDK A2 kit, and the valve gear from comet which was going to be used on my A2/3 Owen Tudor but a King/Gilbert valve gear was used instead.
The donor V2: chassis fell apart (old spilt chassis version ). I've seen the latest V2 run and it's very sweet - but like the A1/A2 the Cartazzi representation lack depth/ relief.
I'll therefore only need chassis and a motor gearbox and the the new body. Oh just leaving the tender to have the 'golf ball' handrail knobs replace with something finer.
Repaint and its done _ probably with my build rate by 2022

Definitely a maybe now...Atlantic 3279 wrote:One has been tried and it fits.
Lets see:
Decent V2 Body? Yup, courtesy of Mr King it seems
Decent chassis? Check in the affirmative, Comet have one suitable
Buildable chassis to P4? Comet chassis, yup
Wheels to P4? Gibson or Exactoscale methinks...
Wallet running and hiding???

It has only today come to my attention that page 118 of the January issue of Hornby magazine featured a picture in which a man wearing a green T-shirt clearly needed suck in his gut, throw out his chest, and hold his head erect

Now, a Yorkshire Wallet would go for your throat! Gibson wheels are very good - even a duffer like me can use them!IAK wrote:Definitely a maybe now...Atlantic 3279 wrote:One has been tried and it fits.

Re: Atlantic's works inc. RTRconversions. Hornby GN coaches
Good morning all on a beautiful sunday
I have managed to resist rushing out and buying a Hornby Magazine for a pic of somebody in a green shirt.
I am sure a few walks in the Lincolshire Wolds would trim the figure.
(Apologies if the Wolds are too far away, but my knowledge of Lincolnshire geography is very limited).

Re: Atlantic's works inc. RTRconversions. Hornby GN coaches
Okay, back to the V2 project at last.
When I abandoned work on this prior to the Barrow Hill event I had spotted problems with what I had achieved up to that point. Above the coupled wheels the running plate was a little higher towards the front than at the rear, plus, despite having both the buffer beam and the cab at the correct heights I had the puzzle of the boiler centre line appearing to slope downwards towards the front of the loco whilst the front of the smokebox was actually still a touch too high. I'm not sure how well the faults show in this image (ignore 4772 at the top, it's the ghostly grey one that counts) Yesterday I went to see "40C" for a chin-wag on a variety of subjects and we put the body against the Isinglass drawing. I already knew that I was gouing to have to remove the thin skirting beneath the boiler (added for mould making purposes) and pull part of the running plate down a little by reducing the depth of the shallow s-curves, but the contradicting faults with the boiler position still puzzled me. As we studied the comparison with the drawing (and I later checked that the drawing was correct with respect to the boiler profile) it became clear that on the top line of the boiler, the angle where the coned section of the boiler and the parallel section meet was simple not sufficiently pronounced.
Last night I set about butchering the body again. as well as reducing the height of the shallow s-curve in the running plate I split the smokebox from the saddle again and filed out all of the packing that I'd previously added to make things fit. I made piercing saw cuts upward into the boiler at both ends of the coned section, leaving things attached at the top, then pulled the front of the cone downwards to the require extent, closing up the rear saw cut and wedging the front one open to a greater degree. Things now look much more satisfactory, with the parallel front section of the boiler lying horizontal, at about the right (lower) level, and the running plate sitting horizontal above the coupled wheels. The image below shows the cuts as red dotted lines, and the arrows indicate the way I moved things.
