UP 4014 to be restored
It has been rumoured a while, but here's the official press release:
http://www.uprr.com/newsinfo/releases/h ... 4014.shtml
Then they'll just have to find somewhere to run it...

URL broken?
Even though it will be travelling most of the way on Company track, it is going to take a while to haul it to Cheyenne.

Here is a more direct link: http://trn.trains.com/bigboy. What an impressive machine the Big Boy is!
I was interested to note the UP practice of attaching a Big Boy acting as banking engine inside the caboose. When the time came to detach the banker, it seems to have been commonplace to fly shunt the caboose back on to the rear of the train.

G'Day Gents
I do hope this is 'Not' going to be a 'backyard' job, 'we'll whip the boiler off with a couple of fork lifts' etc etc, it'll be Great to see one in action, rather than sixty year old footage. Excited

Re: UP 4014 to be restored
UP's Cheyenne shops operate No. 844 and the Challenger. The latter is the largest locomotive in running condition. So no, not a backyard job!
