A regular comment made is that North Eastern locomotives didn't get out of their Region much, and therefore won't have much appeal to railway modellers/collectors in other regions. In addition, the announcement of a GCR/BR D11 4-4-0, followed more recently by a GER/BR D16 4-4-0 may focus attention on similar wheel configurations to the loss of others.
Here in the North East, the Class G5 Locomotive Company have re-energised interest in the ubiquitous Worsdell O Class (G5) 0-4-4T North Eastern tank locomotive. BUT how many of us realise the complete allocation that covered operations in both the Great Eastern and Great North of Scotland regions?
Three locomotives, Nos 1889, 1914 & 2098 were allocated to the GNoS, with 2098 allocated to Eastfield (Glasgow); Kittybrewster (Aberdeen); Parkhead (Glasgow); Kittybrewster; Keith (Speyside); and Kittybrewster for a third time, all over approximately a sixteen year period (1939-1955).
Five locomotives, Nos 1769, 1780, 1882, 2093 & 441 allocated to the GE, with 2093 allocated first to Stratford, and then Cambridge, over an eighteen year period (1938-1956).
So I hope that when the likes of Bachmann & Hornby consider North Eastern locomotives for production, they emulate the Hornby Southern M7 0-4-4T, and elect for the North Eastern G5 0-4-4T for production, covering the Scottish, North Eastern, and Eastern regions, from the Moray Firth, to the Thames.
Any comments most welcomed!

Re: North Eastern Tanks on Tour
Sounds good to me! A number of NER types were loaned to other railways during the Great War, too. And a couple of Y7's (H Class 0-4-0T's) worked at Woolwich Arsenal (and at least one Y8 I think too)

G'Day Gents
I think a J26 was allocated to New England for a while as well as a couple of J21's and IIRC didn't Norwich have a couple of NE engines allocated some time in the 30's.

Hi Manna
you're absolutely correct in your observations, and I have previously mentioned the shed allocation for J21 0-6-0 No 26 (65070) further down the list of subjects in this category. In total, 11 x J21 0-6-0s operated outside of the North Eastern Region, 1925 - 1952. (Source: Yeadon Vol 47 Part A).
J26 0-6-0 No 379 (65760) was based out of Peterborough East (Dec 1926 - Jul 1928); New England (Jul 1928 - Sep 1928); and Peterborough East (Sep 1928 - Jan 1929). (Source: Yeadon Vol 47 Part B).
In addition, some 20 x J25 0-6-0s operated in GWR territory during WWII, replacing Dean Goods 0-6-0s called up to the colours. 13 x J27 0-6-0s were also operated outside of the North Eastern Region, 1926 - 1942. (Source: Yeadon Vol 47 Part B).
Best wishes

G'day all
Class Y8 no 559 was on loan to ROF Woolwich during WWI, and Class Y7 no 984 was sold to ROF Woolwich in 1939.
I'm guessing that they weren't driven along the main line to London, but were transported on a well wagon.
