Re: 2512 'Silver Fox'
Just to add, but wasn't there a polished steel strip along the bottom of the valance and extending along the bottom of the cab and tender as well? So, garter blue, polished bands, polished strip, painted name. Would that have been the original incarnation?

Re: 2512 'Silver Fox'
I don't think the original 4 got the silver strip along the bottom of the valance. Just the commonwealth and west riding locos, and later the director named A4s, but not the original 4...yet they did get red back nameplates.giner wrote:Just to add, but wasn't there a polished steel strip along the bottom of the valance and extending along the bottom of the cab and tender as well? The Golden Shuttle and Fleece Locos had the silver valance trim and red nameplates and silver numbers and letters (LNER in Colour).. Never seen a photo of Director version of the A4 with the silver trim etc.
The Silver Locos never had the silver valance trim , they as far as I know had cast nameplates fitted when put into Garter Blue livery with normal gold letters and numbers.

Re: 2512 'Silver Fox'
So glad I've moved to modelling late 1930s. So many wonderful variations on the A4s.
